RUG 4/5 May Meeting Summary

12.06.2025 09:54 | Anonymous member
  • There were no representatives from the EA at this meeting
  • Lots of discussions around incidents on the river and how they are reported to the EA.  A flyer has been circulated with incident reporting information which is essential to do.  The more reporting, the greater visibility with the EA who review all reported incidents daily.  Video footage can also be submitted by email. The incident phone number is 0800 80 70 60
  • There will be a Reading Rowing Regatta on Thames Valley Park stretch weekend 14/15 June.  We have complained to them about width of navigation channel and behaviour of rowers using the channel.  We also raised concerns about bankside maintenance on the opposite side to TVP regarding underwater obstructions.  This will be fed back to British Rowing.
  • There was lots of discussion around EA level of service, number of lock keeprs, lack of lock maintenance etc.  The advice is to write both to the EA and your own local MP.  The more they are bombarded with emails/letters the greater chance of something being done
  • The Royal Berkshire Archives will be displaying a historical River Thames display in Reading council offices 11th June to 29th August.  Details sent to committee via email
  • 67% of boats are unregistered on stretch. EA were putting stickers on boats but didn’t get further north than Tescos
  • Ali Pearson (Enforcement Officer) has been out on the river. Total of 8 Enforcement Officers have to police entire non-tidal Thames
