The Department of Political Science provides research and teaching in the full range of core areas of political science, develops innovative and problem-oriented research focuses and offers a broad diversity of options for its students to seek specialisation. Its staff is currently involved in examining the transformation of governance, state and democracy in different policy areas, geographical regions and political spaces.
The Centre for European Integration Research (EIF) is a research group within the Department of Political Science that is dedicated to research and teaching in the field of European integration. It has specialized in problem-oriented basic research regarding different EU policy areas and their comparison. In the future, we shall deepen our focus on the EU’s role in the so-called digital revolution.
Duration of employment: 4 year/s
Extent of Employment: 30 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.
Job Description:
- active participation in research, teaching and administration in the field of EU research (Prof. Dr. Gerda Falkner, EIF).
- writing a doctoral thesis and scientific publications in the area EU and digitalization
- signing a doctoral thesis agreement (within 12 to 18 months)
- autonomous teaching according to the collective agreements (participation in) supervising students
- involvement in organizing conferences, research projects, publications and lectures
- participating in applications for projects and external funding
Profile:
- graduate (MA or Magister) in political science (or a neighbouring and closely related discipline) with an emphasis on the EU (graduation at the latest in summer 2020)
- affinity and evident skills regarding digitalization (e. g. publications or drafts, seminar papers or master thesis on aspects of the digital revolution in the EU context, etc.)
- specialised in qualitiative methods (preferably to analyse policy fields and decision-making processes)
- substantial level of knowledge concerning (theories of) European integration
- excellence at expressing yourself orally and in writing
- excellent command of English (German can be an asset)
- ability to work harmoniously in a team
- capable software user (MS Office)

- international experiences
- successful initial steps in scientific research
