MEDIA AND INTIMACY

TWG on Media and Intimacy aims to establish a collaborative forum for media and communication researchers, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and exchange on the dynamic ways in which media structure, allow expression of, and govern intimate life.

Bridging micro-level practices and experiences of intimacy with broader processes of datafication, platformization, and governance, TWG members work on developing theoretical and methodological concepts that appreciate how intimacy emerges in interactions among traditional broadcast media, digital platforms, AI, and various forms of technological communications media. With these objectives in mind, we aim at:

• Creating networking and knowledge exchange opportunities for scholars
• Consolidating research on media and intimacy across Europe
• Facilitating interdisciplinary collaborations
• Allowing comparative research on the role of media in different intimate contexts and systems
• Organizing panels at biannual ECC conferences
• Organizing own events as a TWG in the years when no ECC takes place
• Collaborating with other ECREA Sections and TWGs
